Art for All
Ever since we went through a rebranding and redesigning last year, we put “art” at the heart of Tatler Indonesia. Beyond creative self-expression, in the broadest sense, art is a way of communicating ideas and ideals. OPPO, our collaborator for this month’s cover and its cover story, happens to be on the same bandwidth, and we are more than happy to explore the possibilities. Featuring Nicholas Saputra as one of its brand ambassadors, the connection instantly clicked as meetings of creative minds met; for the result, see yourself all the photos artistically shot by Anton Ismael with OPPO Find X3Pro.
After delighting yourself in our cover story, Seize the Day, which delves into Nicholas’ heart as an artist, do read Back to Nature next. I extend a hearty congratulations to Christine for her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong’s White Cube. More celebratory notes also go to the 30 leaders and innovators in our inaugural Indonesia’s Tastemaker List, eight of them featured here and the complete list on our website. As a food-loving nation, we are never short of talents to cook up the best delicacies or foodway champions to advocate for indigenous food security. All of these are possible thanks to Indonesia and its rich connection between cultures and arts.
Besides the culinary world, these expressions of creativity and communication are best seen and enjoyed in the fashion realm. As part of a global community with local roots, our stylish pages will often see traditional textiles beside big-name brands. A Beacon of Beautiful Minds and Heart of the Art are two must-read articles in this edition. The first article touches upon the beautiful spirit of our national heroine, Raden Ajeng Kartini, and the beauty of kebaya and kain as a collaboration titled “My Generation: Women and Kartini”. Meanwhile, the second article sees yet another series of specially-made batik by Benang Ratu and Garuda Kencana Batik for dignitaries and ministers.

Businessmen transforming their factories into cleanrooms for face mask production. Tycoons donating medical supplies to desperate nations around the world. Doctors rising above politics to deliver guidance for the public and clear reports on the progress of their efforts. Throughout our communities, powerful voices are using their influence to bring hope through their actions, their ideas, and their examples.
