El sistema solo funciona para quien fue creado. En los últimos 2 años, los 10 hombres más ricos del mundo han agregado diariamente 1.300 millones de dólares al día a sus fortunas, mientras que los ingresos del 99% de la humanidad han caído. Este reducido grupo de privilegiados acumula 6 veces más riqueza que los 3.100 millones de personas en mayor situación de pobreza.

Cada 26 horas surge un nuevo multimillonario. Esta es la dolorosa y lacerante denuncia de la ONG Oxfam en su informe Las desigualdades matan, publicado a finales de enero con motivo de la reunión virtual del Foro Económico Mundial.

Oxfam lamenta que el dinero inyectado por las entidades financieras y las administraciones públicas para impulsar la recuperación económica poscovid ha acabado en los bolsillos de estos acaudalados potentados. El dinero acumulado por los más ricos podría destinarse a producir suficientes vacunas para el mundo, financiar servicios de salud y protección social universales, invertir en medidas de adaptación climática y reducir la violencia de género en más de 80 países. Incluso así, señala el informe, esos 10 multimillonarios seguirían teniendo 8.000 millones de dólares más que antes de la pandemia.
