An integrated VM journey
Visual Merchandising is an integral part of the store design process, and goes hand in hand with the overall design/ redesign exercise, says Jose Maria Bustos, Creative Director, Visual Merchandising Asia as he shares with VM&RD his experience of working with the Odel /Softlogic Group for the design of the Odel department store in Shangri-la Mall, One Galle Face, Sri Lanka. Read on as he recounts his journey.

I was very fortunate to be invited by Odel/ Softlogic Group to participate in the design of the Odel department store in the newly built Shangri-la Mall, located at One Galle Face in Sri Lanka.

The project was a 52,000 square feet space spanning over three stories. My involvement was to consult on all Visual Merchandising (VM) related strategies and issues of this project. With some of my past clients, I have, sometimes, been asked to ‘finish off’ a project by adding VM elements only after the store has been designed and built, which often ended up looking like a ‘ill-fitted suit’.
