Over the past couple of years or so, complaining about the ubiquity of athleisure has become probably the biggest trend in fashion. And this season for better or worse—we see that brands and designers also think that the pervasiveness of sporty influences in fashion has overstayed its welcome a bit. In its place has come a new appreciation for suits, tailoring and structure. This is definitely a welcome change, not the least because it has sparked many great fashion houses to really show just how creative they can be within the confines of more rigid frameworks. Speaking of designers and brands, another highlight in this issue of DAMAn Style is the way Indonesian designers are becoming increasingly recognized on a global stage. From commercial and creative collaborations to dedicated shows exhibiting the creativity, heritage and fabrics of the nation, Indonesia’s contribution to creating the world’s sense of style has only grown. This time around, we talked to the one and only Didiet Maulana and touched base again with Ba’i Soemarlono to gain more insight into how their works have crossed national and cultural borders.
