Every year, as the few final months roll in and nostalgia hangs heavy in the air, we
end up saying “oh, it’s a year to remember.” And this sentiment certainly applies as
well when we are talking about watches.. Each year sees strong trends, memorable
novelties and stories that will stick around among haute horlogerie fans for quite a
while. So, what is it that makes 2022 different? Well, for one, there are so many milestone anniversaries this year, especially for some of the most famous collections. Patek Philippe’s Calatrava is now 90 years; Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak is turning 50; there was a huge launch for the 70th anniversary redesign of the Breitling Navitimer; TAG Heuer’s Autavia celebrates its 60th birthday; and so on. Naturally, this means that there have been plenty of commemorative watches launched—some of which will undoubtedly become prized collector’s items. Speaking about milestone anniversaries and commemorative watches, one more name that deserves to be highlighted is Cortina Watch, which this year celebrates its golden jubilee. And, as part of the festivities, there has been exhibitions as well as a series of commemorative watches from eight major brands. Not too long ago, we had the chance to chat with Cortina Watch’s CEO, Jeremy Lim, and you can find his story in this very issue. Moreover, we also have interviews with Breitling’s Creative Director Sylvain Berneron, Carole Forestier-Kasapi who is the Movements Director at TAG Heuer along with Laurent Toinet, the Managing Director of Southeast Asia and Oceania for Roger Dubuis.
