The concept of ethical living is so popular, it even has its own Wikipedia entry. And while the openly editable site is not always the most reliable of sources, we think it’s pretty bang-on when it comes to defining what ethical living means. According to the site, ethical living “is the philosophy of making decisions for daily life which take into account ethics and moral values, particularly with regard to consumerism, sustainability, environmentalism, wildlife and animal welfare”. Wikipedia goes on to say that ethical living is “largely a personal choice, and not an organised social movement” but if our experience of putting together this issue is any indication, the concept is fast gathering momentum.
Ethical living is a topic we’ve delved into on the following pages, from the hotly-debated issues surrounding vegan and cruelty-free beauty products (page 30), to the true price of fashion (page 50), and ways you can make your kitchen more sustainable (page 74). We’ve also made a point of chatting to people who are championing the idea of ethical living, from vegan fitness competitor Crissi Carvalho (page 82) to small business owner Sandy Abram (page 104).
Our cover stars this issue, Sally Obermeder and Maha Koraiem, are also living in a way that’s closely aligned to their ethical and moral values – they call it ‘the good life’. That term also happens to be the title of their new book, a follow-up to their hugely popular Super Green Smoothies. Be inspired by the sisters and their unique health and wellness story on page 22.
Finally, it would be remiss to not mention our ‘Women’s biz’ section starting on page 53. We tackle everything from endometriosis to orgasms with sage wisdom and advice from our expert contributors.
This issue, there’s truly something for everyone. We hope you enjoy the read.
