Wrong to think we don't need to act on climate
The Herald
|July 02, 2026
WE frequently hear that the UK shouldn't bother tackling climate breakdown because we are acting alone, and barely responsible for one per cent of emissions. Why is this wrong?
1. It is not true that 'no one else is trying'. Globally, renewables are scooping up almost all new energy investment; crucially, in China, and even in the US.
This is because it is ultimately cheaper and has a future. Most of Europe is either ahead or roughly where we are. To say that the UK is acting alone is a made-up meme for deniers.
