SEBASTIAN Beccacece has confirmed he is leaving his post as Ecuador coach following the team’s elimination from the World Cup.

Seb confirms his exit from Ecuador

The South Americans were beaten 2-0 by co-hosts Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, with the visitors paying the price for a slow start.

Argentinian coach Beccacece’s contract expired at the end of the tournament, having taken on the role in August 2024.

He told DSports: “Today I have to say goodbye to a beautiful and wonderful family, but with immense gratitude, peace of mind, and the knowledge that we gave our all.

“We leave what happened here in the locker room, along with the journey of two and a half years, working tirelessly and giving our all, with great honesty and transparency, and with many debutants on the national team and great results in the qualifiers.

“We had an incredible group stage, and I think the first half (against Mexico) didn't live up to the level of that process.”
