IT APPLIED TO TAKE THEM DOWN AFTER WOMAN WAS INJURED TRIPPING ON ROOTS

- By LOUIS CORBETT

A CAMPAIGN to stop the felling of six protected trees at a Sneinton mosque has been successful after permission to chop them down was refused.

The Jamia Masjid Sultania and Education Centre in Sneinton Dale, Nottingham, submitted an application to cut down trees on its site after an elderly woman injured herself on roots pushing through the pavement.

After a petition from neighbours in Sneinton Dale, Nottingham City Council has turned down the application.

The chairman of the mosque, Nadim Khan, said: "It's disappointing, there are two trees that have raised the paving slabs that are a big concern, we don't know what other options we have.

"Our concern is the safety of the public, god forbid that anyone else trips over them, that was the point in the first place.

"We didn't want to chop all six down in the first place, but we don't want those problems in the future.
