Dine and SHINE

We’re all for embracing the ageing process, but it can be tough on our lovely locks. The rate of hair growth decelerates and follicles gradually shrink, producing thinner, shorter and less-pigmented hair, says Dr Aleksandar Godic, consultant dermatologist at Stratum Clinics.

‘Hair density and volume diminish, the growth cycle shortens, and the amount of pigment decreases.’ Our genes also play a part.

But, fear not – there are ways to give your hair a helping hand. Positive lifestyle changes can make a difference, such as eating beneficial foods, for example. ‘As we age, nutrient deficiencies become more prevalent, intestinal absorption decreases and metabolism slows, potentially causing deficiencies that impact hair health,’ says Dr Godic, so diet really matters.

With that in mind, do your hair a favour by increasing your intake of these follicle-friendly foods.
