Kids see killing themselves as a way out of challenges

THE rate at which children are taking their own lives is increasing. This fact shocked many after recent cases were on e.tv’s current affairs show, CheckPoint. The rate of children, between the ages of 10 and 14 who are committing suicide, has doubled in the past 15 years.
Child suicide is something that has been happening and needs to be tackled, says Shaeda Omar, director at the Teddy Bear Clinic.

A few weeks ago, a nine-year-old boy was found hanging from a swing at a Mpumalanga school with a tunic belt around his neck. The boy’s mother could not believe what had happened saying her son was a happy child.
