CAREFREE AND FUN-FILLED DAYS ON THE ROADS EXPLORING THE ‘ABODE OF THE CLOUDS’

I AM fond of road trips, and there is a kind of raw thrill added when the ride is on a two-wheeler. Agni and I had been contemplating a bike trip for a long time. Finally, the decision was made and we went to explore the “abode of clouds”, Meghalaya, on a bike for a week.

One of the most visited destinations of northeast India, the state is beautiful beyond imagination. Most of the roads in Meghalaya are in good condition and riding a bike is a smooth adventure. Just imagine riding on the smooth black roads with greenery all around and the clouds hanging over you!

Once we arrived at Shillong, the capital city, we went looking for bikes to rent. There are a number of places in Shillong that rents bikes, scooty and scooters on a fixed daily rate. The rent of the vehicles depends on the type and make. While motorbikes like Royal Enfield can be rented at Rs1,000 to Rs1,200 per day, we rented a scooter at Rs700 per day. We had to give a refundable security deposit as we were renting the scooty for more than a day.
