TREKKING WITH THE TUSKERS

A UNIQUE AND AMAZING TREK THROUGH THE NAMDAPHA RAINFOREST OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH.

I FIRST came to know about this trek through a Facebook post and was immediately hooked. I signed up and we (Hari Atamkuri, Charanjiv Kalha and I) flew from Delhi into Dibrugarh, Assam, on the afternoon of November 22nd. We were met by Manishankar Ghosh (from Outdoorpeople) who had flown in earlier to arrange the trek beforehand. After a delicious meal at a Punjabi Dhaba run by a Marwari, we drove to the Babbler’s Inn in Tinsukia, a very charming homestay with modern conveniences run by Partha Sarathi Das and his family. We spent the evening together with the good Old Monk making a key appearance and contributing immensely to the tall tales coming from all the trekkers in the group. Listening to their near-death experiences perhaps wasn’t the best way to get ready for a trek,but it was the impetus I needed to try get some stories of my own!
