Desi Agatha Christie

You have been a literature lover from a very young age and today you are a popular author of several books. How has the journey been and was it your dream to write books?

The journey has been fantastic and fascinating. I always knew I would be a writer...because I began writing at age 7. Between schooling and college and a host of other activities, I managed to write my novels, kept them to myself for a long time, till finally I decided to step out into the world and publish them! Since then, writing has been my constant companion. My ninth book has just been released and I feel totally blessed because my dream is a continuous reality now!

You are nicknamed the Desi Agatha Christie. What inspired you to write so many books in the Mystery/Thriller genre?

I grew up reading Enid Blyton and Agatha Christie. I was fascinated by the mystery genre which I felt was a complete one, encompassing almost all aspects of life within it. I could tackle social issues, talk about relationships, comment on political issues and almost everything under the guise of mystery. I love this genre!

Earthy Expressions

Folk art and tribal art are easily recognizable - bright colours, bold strokes, quaint ways of representing people and animals. Many actually tell a tale! India being a vast country and with so many agricultural communities and tribes living close to nature, many art forms have evolved. Many have all but disappeared. Fortunately, there is an interest in such traditional art forms and efforts are being made to revive some of them. In the next few months, we will embark on a journey learning more about some of such art forms.

As we alighted from the train and exited Monaco station, a cool sea breeze enveloped us, as if it were a natural welcome for returning again! Our immediate task-to figure out where the rest of the contingent was, so that we could join them and return back to Cannes, for the night. However, it was not going to be easy and the next couple of hours were filled with anxiety and mild panic.
