Ditch your toxic relationship with food by cosying up to these macronutrients

Our bodies require two types of nutrients: micronutrients and macronutrients. Micronutrients are things such as vitamins and minerals, which are super important, but only needed in small (aka micro) quantities. Then there are macronutrients, which our body needs in much larger quantities – hence, macros!
There are three basic types of macronutrients: carbohydrates, fats and proteins, and we like to think of these as contestants in a dating show because… well, you know, it’s just a helluva lot more fun that way! Let’s meet the contestants!

BACHELOR 1: MR CARBO
Mr. Carbo is often misjudged and seen as the bad boy – he’s certainly a sweet-talker. In fact, he’s essentially made up of sugars. But the truth is we need him in our lives to provide energy.
Medically, it’s recommended that he constitute 45-65 per cent of our dietary intake. Why? Because he makes us feel good to be alive, baby. He’s got a whole stack of groovy feel-good foods under his belt that supply us with instant energy that is quickly metabolised, leaving the body free to use other macros for jobs like tissue growth and repair.
