It was the second-last day of their exploratory 12-day trip to the Primeiras Archipelago. They were heading back to Vilanculos at a steady 8 to 9 knots while experiencing one of the rare calm mornings of the trip. The main sail stood proud in the gentle south-easterly breeze and the motors were purring with the marlin lures smoking and splashing off the stern. While thinking back to their time at the Primeiras, the author thought about a question asked by fellow crew member following a tug of war with his first Malabar rockcod of about 10 kg during their first sunrise over Pantiloon Reef: “Does a GT put up the same fight as a Malabar?” he asked.
