You can now contribute to the first unified and holistic picture of what fish we have and where they occur in Africa by registering for free as a Citizen Scientist on FishMAP, thereby making your personal mark in furthering our fishes’ future and well-being. The Animal Demography Unit (ADU) at the University of Cape Town has been capturing distribution data for many creatures in Southern Africa for almost a quarter of a century. FishMAP is ADU’s newest project that encapsulates all Southern and Eastern African freshwater fish, and this now brings all species of vertebrates into the ADU fold.
All and any freshwater fish can be registered, be they indigenous or otherwise, and whether caught by fly, hook, net or whatever legal means – and hopefully returned alive to the water!
Don’t delay – make a contribution to science through observing and submitting records to this continental initiative. To register, visit the website http://vmus.adu.org.za
