Learning about neuroscience was a revelation for me. It taught me that we are not shackled to our pasts. We have the capacity to change every day and to reproduce new neurons until our last day on Earth.
We don’t have to possess bad character; we are not our traumas. We do not need to listen to negative self-talk; we are not our mental habits. We can change now, immediately. This is not wishful thinking or fantasy. It is the reality of human neuroplasticity. The ability to alter the brain’s neural synapses and pathways is ours—and it is achievable through the practice of meditation.
The brain behaves like a muscle, and every day is a chance to influence its development. We can further build and enhance our character, our determination, our happiness, our intuition, and our freedom or we can let it atrophy. We can become more present, more intelligent, more compassionate, and free.
