As Makam Music Family, we have left behind our first year together with you. Every issue we prepared was more meaningful and more comprehensive with supports from you.
The citylines ferry, which was named after Prof. Dr. Alaeddin Yavaşça, began voyages to the blue waters of the Bosphorus.
We start this issue with our children who are our future. We are hosting the Borusan Children's Choir and well-regarded conductor, Gülsen Yavuzkal.
The archive of Dr. Şehvar Beşiroğlu, who is always memorialized with mercy and gratitude, was donated to the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory by her elder sister Lawyer Beyza Koral.
The last part of our journey to the recent history of Turkish music with Kudsi Erguner is allocated in this issue for you.
More than six hundred new works were competed in the 100th year Üsküdar Music Society Turkish Classical Music Composition Contest. Kolektif Istanbul group has told the story of past 15 years to our magazine at the celebration of its 15th anniversary. “Cafe Aman Istanbul” group, which gave the Istanbul City Music concerts to the choke-full of audiences for two nights in the the famous Megaron concert hall of neighboring capital city Athens, brings out the different colors of Istanbul. One of the greatest voices of the century, Kani Karaca was told with his different aspects by his son Mehmet Ali Karaca for our valuable readers.

Dear Readers,

Maybe, the most beautiful piece of art is music. It is the melodic life that begins inside a mother’s womb, an integral part of human nature. Music is the most beautiful common ground that brings people together.

The geography we live in has hosted a deep-rooted music history. At the same time, the states and the heads of these states also made a considerable amount of contribution to music. Especially during the periods of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic, the interest of the statesmen in music and some of them being seriously engaged in music, have ensured that this branch of art is supported and brought into the present with a unique richness. Thus, numerous musicians have created invaluable works of art. It is our duty of loyalty to our history to preserve these works of art, tell their value and transfer them to future generations.

On each page you will going to read, we have strived to establish a bridge between the fascinating mystery of the musical history and the colors of our day built on this deep-rooted history. Our magazine is prepared in both Turkish and English in order to contribute to its goal of telling the universal characteristic of the Turkish music to the whole world.
