We are delighted to present you the fourth issue of our music magazine Makam. We have valuable guests and interesting topics also in this issue.
Müzeyyen Musical Theater finally opened the curtains. It is worth watching the musical which was prepared with intense efforts of the distinguished artists. It is a great achievement for our country to remember with a fascinating musical such a precious artist who has written her name to the republic period. With the best known words, “the older the wiser”, however we wish the young generation better understands the art values of this land.
You have heard the great composer Avni Anıl and his memories from many valuable artists. We rewrote the famous composer through the eyes of his son, Ezgi Anıl. In the International Violin Competition in Hungary, our young violinists returned with four awards. We have a special interview about the valuable work of the conductor Suat Sancar, the flag bearer of Turkish Music in London, and the award given to him by the Queen of England.
We will talk about Ikrami Ozturan, an artist who devotes all his time to art, his successful works in Turkey and abroad, and FAMI Music and Art Association which invites all art lovers to use its benefits.
You will find here the second part of the series of our previous issue; “All About Music with Kudsi Erguner” and “ Music Therapy with Özgür Salur”.
We have written for you Lutiye Rifat Varol, a young craftsman who is visited by the ney players from all over the world and the factors behind his success.
Dimitris Kirlimpas (Kırlıbaş) told us the secret of voices and their effects on human nature with the “Singing Bowls“. In this issue, you will find two very valuable articles written by the experts on the “legal status of using the stage names for the musicians” and “the reduction of the taxes on the artists”.
With our deep respects...

Dear Readers,

Maybe, the most beautiful piece of art is music. It is the melodic life that begins inside a mother’s womb, an integral part of human nature. Music is the most beautiful common ground that brings people together.

The geography we live in has hosted a deep-rooted music history. At the same time, the states and the heads of these states also made a considerable amount of contribution to music. Especially during the periods of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic, the interest of the statesmen in music and some of them being seriously engaged in music, have ensured that this branch of art is supported and brought into the present with a unique richness. Thus, numerous musicians have created invaluable works of art. It is our duty of loyalty to our history to preserve these works of art, tell their value and transfer them to future generations.

On each page you will going to read, we have strived to establish a bridge between the fascinating mystery of the musical history and the colors of our day built on this deep-rooted history. Our magazine is prepared in both Turkish and English in order to contribute to its goal of telling the universal characteristic of the Turkish music to the whole world.

This is the magazine of all who set their hearts on music.

Very truly yours.
