Even after 44 years of non-stop publication, the monthly Industrial Products Finder (IPF) retains its numero uno position for Industrial Advertising in India. A magazine that proved to be a boon to the nascent SME segment when launched in October 1972, IPF has since been a witness to the industrial progress of the country in general, and the SME segment in particular, during this period.
 
RAPID is the theme of IPF Annual 2016 issue, reflecting the fast paced developments in the country during the past year, in terms of policy initiatives and the gradual improvement in terms of actual implementation of programmes. RAPID is an acronym for Railways, Automobiles, Power, Infrastructure and Defence – the sectors of the economy most likely to perform well and generate demand for Capital Equipment as well as MRO products and consumables during 2016.

IPF Dec 2019 had 3 Focus Sections – “Industrial Automation & Robotics”, “Test & Measuring Instruments”, and “Region Special - Delhi-NCR”. While the long term advantages of automation to SMEs are undisputed, the focus on operational activities and lack of long term vision constraints smaller organisations to invest in automation. The lead article of Focus 1 emphasised on the need to create and communicate frugal automation solutions for SMEs in order to serve the “Bottom of the Pyramid”. The growth of India’s test and measurement (T&M) equipment market is primarily attributed to the growth of the electronic industry in India. Factors like rise in the use of smart devices and growth of wireless technology and government initiatives are towing the industry positively. “Focus 2” took a closer look at the growth drives and emerging opportunities in T&M equipment market. “Focus 3” explores the potential of Delhi-NCR region for manufacturing companies. 

IPF Nov 2019 had 3 Focus Sections – "Mechanical Power Transmission/Fluid Power", "Renewable Energy" and "Plastics, Packaging, printing & labelling machinery". Rise in investment for infrastructure development is leading to increase in demand for heavy machinery, which in turn is driving the market for mechanical power transmission products. Gearbox - a mechanical device that transmits energy from one device to another to reduce speed and generate torque – is vital for the functioning of industrial equipment and products. As companies look to reduce operating cost and carbon footprint, there is an increasing requirement for energy-efficient gearbox. IPF Nov 2019 focused on trends in gearbox market. 
India has added 9,327 mw of utility scale wind and solar capacity in last 12 months. The total renewable energy capacity is estimated at 66, 650 mw as on September 30, 2019. “Focus 2” discusses opportunities for Indian manufacturers in the renewable sector and trends in renewable equipments. Indian printing industry has undergone several revolutionary changes in the past 15 years. “Focus 3” discusses how shift from regular printing jobs are demanding value added systems being incorporated in the industry and take a closer look over how digital technology thrives on the phenomenon of adding value.



IPF Oct 2019 had 3 Focus Sections – "Gears & Bearings, Motors & Drives", "Pollution Control Equipment", and "Corrosion Protection (Surface Treatment)". The Indian bearing market is estimated at Rs 95 billion accounting for less than 5 per cent of global bearing demand. Manufacturers in India cater to about 60 per cent of domestic bearing needs with the remaining met through imports. Subdued sales growth in automotive industry - which accounts for 48 per cent of bearings demand in India - is taking a toll on suppliers including bearing makers. However, industrial segment is offering some solace to the bearing industry. IPF Oct 2019 elaborates on steps taken by manufacturers to tide over this tough time by focusing on more technology intensive product to meet the growing requirements of durable, smart and cost-efficient bearings. IPF Aug 2019 had 2 Focus Sections – Electrical & Electronics (Power Generation, Switchgear & Control Panel), and Batteries & UPS System. IPF July 2019 had 3 Focus Sections – Material Handling Equipments (includes Logistics & Warehousing), Construction, Earthmoving & Mining Equipment, Test & Measuring Instruments. 
As one of the major contributors to environmental degradation, the transport sector alone contributes to about a quarter of global CO2 emissions. Focus Section 1 showed why adoption of ‘green transportation’ is important for sustainable supply chain and how automation & robotics are changing the warehouse ecosystem. With the re-elected NDA government reiterating its commitment to infrastructure development in the country, construction equipment makers are gearing up for a good year. Within construction equipment segment, hydraulic excavators, which are the most widely used earthmoving equipment in heavy duty operation, are expected to experience much faster growth than other sub-segments. Focus Section 2 tracked developments in construction & mining equipment. Increasing electronic components in vehicles, electric & connected cars, engine downsizing, rise in stringent emission norms, etc are some of the developments that need accurate and rigorous testing of automotive parts. IPF June 2019 had 3 Focus Sections – “Machine & Cutting Tools”, “Auto Components & Accessories”, “Aerospace & Avionics”. With increasing industrial production, the machine tool industry is in the growth phase. According to the Indian Machine Tools Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA), production of Indian machine tools industry is projected to grow at a CAGR of about 20 per cent till 2020-21, whereas consumption is projected to grow at a CAGR of 15 per cent till 2020-21. The ambitious growth plans of auto, auto components and capital goods industry will drive the demand for machine tools. IPF June 2019 showed how the demand for machine tools will witness a robust growth in the next 4-5 years from current levels on the back of these plans.
Automotive is one of the key sectors contributing towards the GDP of the country. The body shops, paint shops, powertrain and assembly lines in automotive industry demands efficiency, flexibility and precision. IPF June 2019 focused on how auto component makers are adopting novel manufacturing technologies to improve productivity and quality of the product.
Though imported components account for a major share in many of the systems and sub-systems in the Indian aerospace and defense (A&D) sector, imports are coming down (albeit slowly) due to the government’s indigenisation efforts. The size of A&D market that can addressed by small & medium manufacturers is anticipated to go up from Rs 216,000 crore in 2014 to Rs 340,000 crore by 2020. IPF June 2019 highlighted on opportunities for SMEs in Aerospace & Avionics sector. 


IPF May 2019 had 3 Focus Sections - "Boilers, Furnaces & Heat Exchangers", "Industrial Safety Equipment" and "Industrial Cleaning Equipment & Services". The demand for boilers - which are used to generate steam that can be used for a variety of purposes including space heating, sterilisation, drying, humidification and power generation - is closely associated with the growth of power sector and industries. Indian boiler market is expected to increase to $ 11 billion by 2022 from $ 5.1 billion in 2014. Boilers play a big role in determining the energy efficiency of an industrial unit. IPF May 2019 focused on the effect of adoption of stringent emission norms and rising concerns toward environmental pollution on the demand of boilers.
Industrial safety is given foremost importance in manufacturing and production due to the strict norms and various health hazards that plants pose. Companies are becoming more and more aware and taking steps to educate their employees through safety weeks and workshops. A very core aspect of the industrial safety equipment industry is the personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety goggles, safety helmet, protective clothing, respirators, fall protection among others. The lead article of Focus 2 tracked changes in PPE market and factors influencing their demands. 
From electric mobility to mobile handsets, require cleaning solutions to maintain hygiene standards and provide a safe work environment at their manufacturing facilities. With the increasing use of standards and controls in all processes of production, keeping a plant free of pollutants of any kind has become mandatory. IPF May 2019 focused on the emerging trends in the Indian cleaning equipment market.
In PLUS section, Jaydev V Sanghavi (Executive Director of Aarvi Encon Ltd) explained the importance to bridge the engineering skill-gap in India to increase manufacturing capability of the country.


IPF April 2019 had 2 Focus Sections - "Castings & forgings/dies & moulds" and "Fasteners, adhesives & sealants". Usually, conventional welding is a ‘Repair-Oriented’ technique. It is carried out after the dies are damaged or worn out. The first focus section highlighted on a new Japanese cold-welding technique that enables appropriate surface hardening of dies, moulds and tools to increase their service life. As a result of Industry 4.0, which will act as a boon for industries functioning in highly competitive environment, machines will be able to operate without human intervention restricting human role. This will change from operation to supervision and maintenance. Guest writer - AK Anand, Director, The Institute of Indian Foundry - focused on benefits of Industry 4.0 in foundry industry. The lead article of Second Focus explained the new trends in adhesives industry. With car makers opting for lighter materials such as polymer and aluminium (which are not suitable for welding), the demand for high-performance adhesives or bonders is on the rise. Besides, water based adhesives market is also expected to witness an upswing with growing awareness about the environment. 
In addition to these 2 Focus Section, IPF April 2019 also had "Germany" as "Country Focus". Trade partnership between India and Germany is over 500 years old. Today, Germany is India’s largest trading partner in the European Union and ranks 4th in the list of India’s top ten trading partners worldwide. In future, two countries are expected to work closely in areas of trade, education, culture, sustainable development, etc for mutually beneficial partnership. In PLUS section, one of the article provided insights on the impact of technologies on the lives of the next generation of women.

Since industrial gears & bearing are vital components for the functioning of industrial equipment and products, the excellent progress of several other industries has resulted in a surge in the demand for industrial gears. Increasing automation in manufacturing units, Government’s ‘Make in India’ program, and rise in spending on railways and infrastructure is boosting demand for industrial gears & bearing. Similarly, increasing awareness towards energy conservation combined with growing industrial infrastructure is driving the growth of the electric motors industry. The “Gears & Bearings, Motors & Drives” section tracks the impact of electrification and rise in need for automation on the industry. Welding process as a part of a manufacturing supply chain can increase shareholder value by improving value drivers such as revenue growth, operating margin and asset efficiency of the end customer. The lead article in “Welding and Fabrication” section demonstrates advantages provided by welding management software to all stages of the welding process from manufacturing planning to final documentation of the deliverables. The section also features interview of Aniruddha Vilekar, CTO of Ador Welding Ltd. Power generation and transmission & distribution segments are two verticals in the power generation industry, with the latter having a larger market size out of the two. Hydraulics and pneumatics find numerous numerous industrial applications in machine tools, injection moulders, forklifts, excavators, hauler trucks etc. The pneumatics and hydraulics market is on a steady development and activities in the infrastructure sector, farm equipment and industrial equipment can be cited as major reasons. The "Hydraulics & Pneumatics" section in IPF Feb 2019 explained how adoption of electronic and proportional controls in the equipment and machineries is having an impact on the industry. India's economic growth is attracting many MNCs to set up their production bases in the country to take advantage of its cost-competitiveness. At the same time, companies - Indian as well as global - are opting for modern technologies in their production unit and warehouses. In line with this trend, use of automation and robotics is also growing rapidly in material handling equipment industry. The "Second Focus Section" tracked the evolving market of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and its growth drivers. Lubricants are used to reduce friction between the surfaces. Good lubricants possess the various characteristics like high boiling point, low freezing point, high resistance to oxidation, corrosion prevention, high viscosity index, thermal stability, hydraulic stability, and demulsibility. In its "Third Focus Section", IPF elaborated on effect of rise in auto sales, rapid industrialisation and shifting of the production hubs to India on the consumption of lubricants in India.

With India aiming to increase its manufacturing industry’s contribution to the country’s GDP to 25 per cent within a few years from now, machine tool industry is expected to play a prominent role. The current market size of Indian machine tool industry is around $ 2.3 billion (Rs 14,692 crores), of which domestic production accounts for around 50 per cent of total consumption. Government of India’s policy initiatives have paved way for Indian machine tool industry to move further on the growth path and IMTEX 2019 & Tooltech 2019 will be a significant opportunity for the manufacturing industry to make itself at par with global leaders. IMTEX this time is significant as the exhibition which began in 1969 will cross a milestone of 50 years. IPF brought out a Special Focus edition on IMTEX 2019 in Jan 2019 with a host industry leaders expressing their views on various aspects of machine tools and accessories industry. On the occasion of CII-DIPP National Forum 2018, IPF interviewed Dr Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.


Automation and robotics are becoming an indispensable part of the modern production line and are re-shaping the landscape of Indian manufacturing sector. The industrial automation industry in India projected to grow at a CAGR of 10-12 per cent during 2015-2020 and is expected to touch $3.49 billion by 2020. Automation systems with innovative features are being set up in all the major industries like automotive, chemicals and mining. IPF Dec 2018 focused on role played by “automation and robotics” in making manufacturing processes more efficient and productive in India. The second Focus Section highlighted tracked the demand trend for “Test and measurement (T&M) equipment” with increasing usage of electronics (across industries) and stringent standards for quality, safety, and environmental. Depending on end-user requirements, T&M equipment use can vary from simple to complex automated devices. Dec 2018 also has “Delhi-NCR Region Special” showcasing the advantages offered by the region to manufacturers. The Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) are promptly visible as a global economic hub and are now one of the rapidly expanding economic regions in India. Apart from facilitating plethora of economic advantage and employment opportunities for the rural and urban sector, the NCR has also witnessed rapid expansion of specialised industrial clusters. 



India is emerging as a key market for material handling equipment (MHE) with a spurt in the number of warehouses and container freight stations. This will, in turn, boost the demand for MHE like forklifts, pallet trucks, stackers, order pickers and reach trucks. Increasing penetration of advanced technologies, such as RFID, IoT, and voice picking, are expected to give a boost to the material handling equipment market. IPF's Nov 2018 edition tracked the performance of the “Material Handling Equipment” industry. The second Focus Section highlighted trends in “Mechanical Power Transmission & Fluid Power”. As India looks to meet its energy demand on its own, which is expected to reach 15,820 TWh by 2040, renewable energy is set to play an important role. By 2030, renewable sources are expected to help meet 40 per cent of India’s power needs. New investments in clean energy in the country reached $ 11 billion in 2017. IPF Nov 2018 highlighted the importance of “Renewable Energy” and new opportunities that it offers to the suppliers. The fourth Focus Section discussed growth drivers & challenges facing the “Packaging, Printing & Labelling” industry and also the scope of “3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing)” in the manufacturing sector.



Rising air pollution is causing health issues among human being and other living animals. It is also responsible for damaging environment. Particulate matter is one of the most important aspects of air pollution. As per a recent WHO report, India had 14 out of world's 20 most polluted cities in terms of PM2.5 levels in 2016. The report also highlighted that of the 3.8 million deaths caused by household air pollution globally, the Southeast Asia region accounts for 1.5 million or 40 per cent deaths, and of the 4.2 million global deaths due to ambient air pollution. The "Pollution Control Equipment" section explains applications, advantages and disadvantages of major equipment used for controlling particulate matter to mitigate the problem of air pollution. Increasing infrastructure spending and growing automobile demand are expected to propel the plastics machinery market in India. The pumps and valves – which are widely used in the process industry and other end-use sectors such as automation for discrete manufacturing and pumps for agricultural use – play a critical role in keeping the economy running. “Pumps & Vlaves” section discusses how Indian manufacturers are capitalising on the growth in the industry, which is estimated to be of Rs 17,500 crore and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 7 to 10 per cent over the next few years. According to the 12th Five Year Plan, the Government of India allocated a budget of approximately $ 167 million for the development of the process plant equipment market in the country. The focus section on “Chemical, Food & Pharma Equipment” highlights trends in user-industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and food processing and their impact on process plant equipment sector. With a low per capita paint consumption of 4 kgs, India offers huge growth opportunity for paints (decorative as well as industrial) industry as the per capita paint consumption is bound to increase with economic development and modernisation. "Paints & Varnishes" section track changes in Indian coating industry as it is set to see 11 per cent CAGR over 2016-2021, following growth of India’s automotive sector, developing residential construction segment, and strong spending on infrastructure throughout the country.

The August 2018 edition of IPF focused on 3 industry segments of Electrical & Electronics; Batteries & UPS Systems; and Corrosion Protection. Sharp rise in demand in Q3 & Q4 and stabilised GST helped Indian electrical and electronics (E&E) industry register a record performance in 2017-18. However, rising imports and global slowdown could play a spoilsport to this party.
