Runners got ninety-nine problems – but being bored ain’t one of them.
Plenty of people say they’d like to take up running;feware inclined to action their words. “I really want to go running,”Big Dave once said.Aboerie roll spewed out of his mouth, as he followed with an excuse: “Exceptthat, unlike you, I don’t have the time. I have such a busy schedule.”
Thereby implying that my life was so empty, I had to fill it up with running.
But of all the excuses Big Dave gave, the one that really got up my nose was: “I would take up running if it wasn’t so boring. I don’t know how you do it, all that mindless plodding.”
Thereby implying that my brain was so meagre, I would’t actually notice how boring running was.
Even more irritating than MrLard-Arse’s inaccurate assumptions was the fact that my meagre brain failed to conjure up a cutting comeback. One such as: “I can see why someone like you would find running tedious: running and thinking is taxing for some.”
But by the time my put-down came to me – four hours after the fact – it was less than effective.
