Garners 31% of budget aim in Q1 FY27

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

The Centre has made a strong start to its disinvestment and asset monetisation programme in the current financial year, raising nearly 31 per cent of its full-year Budget target in the first quarter as it looks to strengthen non-tax revenues amid rising expenditure pressures.

According to government data, Rs 24,928 crore has been mobilised so far through disinvestment and asset monetisation against the Budget Estimate of Rs 80,000 crore for FY27. The amount includes Rs 18,561 crore raised through stake sales in public sector enterprises and another Rs 6,367 crore through asset monetisation under the Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) route.

The pace of disinvestment during the first quarter has been the fastest recorded in the opening quarter of any financial year. Between mid-May and June, the government launched one offer for sale every week, selling stakes in six public sector companies. These included Central Bank of India, Coal India, NHPC, NLC India, GIC and IRFC.
