Move Past Picky Eating
Prevention US
|February 2023
Being fussy about food is a rite of passage for many toddlers, but when that pickiness extends throughout and beyond childhood, it can lead to deficiencies in important nutrients and poor health over time. Liz Shaw, R.D.N., a mom of two and the owner of shaw simple swaps.com, shares her best strategies for growing good eaters.
KEEP OFFERING
Even if your kids refuse it 20 times, try another 10 times. "It takes repeated exposure for them to learn to accept a new food, so don't give up!" Shaw says. Keep regularly putting it on their dinner plates, and experiment with prep methods-maybe they rejected roasted broccoli but will end up loving broccoli in pasta or soup.
