THE ANTARCTIC ice sheet, which has the biggest potential for sea-level rise upon melting, may be at or very close to a tipping point, says a study published in Communications Earth and Environment on May 30.

World at risk of losing ice sheet, glaciars

The study says it has confirmed "hysteresis" behaviour in the ice sheet, which means the melting process has entered a point at which it will continue even if global warming is contained. It says that even 0.25°C rise in ocean temperatures― or even zero warming over the current levels-in the West Antarctic ice sheet will lead to a sea-level rise of 4 m
