MUSIC has long been a popular gift at Christmas. Who hasn't wished for a new gadget, from state-of-the-art speakers to vinyl players, to pass the long winter nights?
Things were no different in the 19th century, as new and exciting gizmos were increasingly on sale. In 1891, Campbell & Co. of 116 Trongate, Glasgow, had a full page in The Scots Magazine to shout about “The Best Xmas Present & New Year Gift” – a melodeon!
