The stuff in your nose is made up of water, proteins, antibodies, and dissolved salts, explains Jonathan Parsons, M.D., a professor of internal medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Your body produces it to keep sinuses and airways hydrated and lubricated and to protect against irritants, he adds.
