MOKE IS A TIME CAPSULE
The Alex Issigonis-designed Mini Moke was originally intended for military use as a lightweight, go-anywhere vehicle that could be dropped by parachute. On test it failed, mainly due to its small wheels and low power, so it was repurposed for recreational use. In this form it was produced from 1964-'68, with 14,518 cars made at Longbridge. It was also built in Australia and Portugal.

Martin BUCKLEY
Material from the BBC's 'golden age' tends to be recalled through a heavily rose-tinted lens. Apart from Fawlty Towers, certain Monty Python skits and a few documentaries, I'm not sure it was all that wonderful. Independent television seemed garishly commercial for middle-class tastes: nobody at my school was forbidden to watch it, but I've since learned that plenty of '70s posh kids were. But for all its cheesy game shows and episodes of Crossroads, ITV was the home of exciting action series of the ITC genre - The Persuaders!, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) and The Saint are my earliest memories - and that was good enough for me.

FIRST HRG IS ALMOST FINISHED
One of Britain's most endearing sports cars is 90 years old in 2025, and its very first prototype is reemerging after a protracted mechanical overhaul. Ted Halford (ex-Vale Motors), Guy Robins (formerly of Trojan) and Ron Godfrey (ex-GN) joined forces to build a sports car, the HRG, in the belief that many manufacturers had sacrificed performance for styling and increased weight.

AUSTIN VAN HAS HIDDEN TALENTS
The list of cars I have owned in the past would perhaps make any classic enthusiast's pulse race. My first was a Vauxhall 12, followed by Morris Minor and Austin A35 vans, three Minis (a standard car, a Cooper and a van), Hillman Super Minx, Austin-Healey Sprite, Opel Manta, Lotus Europa and Mercedes-Benz 380SL – to name but a few. If nothing else, it proves that boys love their toys.

THE RISE OF AUTOMOBILIA
Alongside values for classic cars, the motoring memorabilia market has also had increasing interest in recent years, with motorsport trinkets and decorative antiques achieving record sales. Gooding Christie's had its highest-ever automobilia sale result in April, at $1,485,469 from more than 500 lots. RM Sotheby's set the world record for a Formula One driver's helmet that same month, at £720k for Ayrton Senna's 1992 lid. In March, Burns & Co of Australia found an astonishing AUS$133,975 (£65,000) for a 100-year-old Shell enamel sign (below right), and in May, Cheffins set a record with a £9000 Benzole light-box.
