Coinneach MacLeod shares the same surname as The Donald's mum and comes from same island but the international cookbook sensation has more in common with his nemesis Joe Biden

We're very proud islanders here. But we keep our cakeholes shut about Trump

IF YOUR surname was the same as Donald Trump's mum and you both came from the same tiny island you would wonder if you were related.

And so Coinneach MacLeod, the Hebridean Baker, did his checks to see if Trump's late mum Mary Anne was one of the family.

Because like the influencer and food writer, Mary Anne MacLeod hailed from Lewis, population of just around 20,000.

And she too spoke Gaelic.

Mary emigrated to the US in 1930 like many young Scots looking for work.

It was there she rose in society after meeting property developer Fred Trump although she did not live to see Donald become president, dying aged 88 in 2000.

Coinneach admits he was relieved to discover there is no connection with Trump.

He said: "I have checked and I'm not related to Trump. It's weird. We don't really talk about him at home. In any other situation we'd be proud of him."

On the other hand Coinneach is proud to have met Trump's nemesis and former president Joe Biden.

Biden invited him to the White House in September last year to recognise the work he's done as an unofficial ambassador to Scotland in North America.

The 51-year-old said: "We are very proud of our people. I know how proud people are of me and what I've done.

"But funnily enough we just don't mention Donald Trump.
