Swinney pitches in £180k for golf event

THE Scottish Government has promised £180,000 for a contest at a Trump golf course that will give out more than £2million in prize money.

First Minister John Swinney made the announcement as the US president enjoyed a day of golf at his Turnberry resort in Ayrshire.

He has pledged cash for the Nexo Championship taking place from August 7 to 10 at Trump's course at Menie in Aberdeenshire.

The move has been blasted by politicians as "hypocritical", "embarrassing" and a waste of taxpayers' cash.
