CELTIC defender Auston Trusty is a symptom and not the condition itself.

The cure is, on all known evidence, unlikely to be found in the foreseeable future.

Like everybody else, I thought that when Trusty’s boot connected with Jack Butland’s head at Hampden last Sunday it would naturally mean an ordering off for an extremely dangerous challenge on Rangers’ keeper.

Even Martin O'Neill, Celtic's interim manager, thought the same thing.

When the Ibrox club asked for clarification on the matter they were given what they considered to be an unsatisfactory explanation from the SFA’s head of referees Willie Collum. This is a concern. It means that Collum agreed with the decision not to show Trusty a red card.
