Top school movies to get you in the mood for those lazy child-free afternoons

IT'S time to put away the sunscreen and the wellies and look out the new bag and pencil case... this week will see many kids go back to school.

And no matter how good or bad the weather has been, it's always a relief to send the little darlings off on the first day.

Here are 10 brilliant school films to get you in the mood for all those free afternoons again...

THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE (1969)

Based on the book by Muriel Spark, Maggie Smith plays a teacher in an Edinburgh all-girls school who tries to teach her "gerls" the ways of the world. It won Smith an Oscar. Best line: "All my pupils are the creme de la creme."

SCHOOL OF ROCK (2023)

Jack Black plays a down-at-heel guitarist who poses as a teacher and secretly turns his class into a rock band. A winning comedy, even Led Zeppelin approved. Best line: "Please Give us the power to blow people's minds with our high voltage rock."
