But Gavin Rae is delighted to see his former Ibrox team-mate leading the club again - this time as gaffer.

It was one of the strangest periods in Gers' history when French coach Le Guen fell out with Ferguson in 2007 and made Rae skipper.

Despite the controversy - Rae wasn't even a regular in the Rangers side at the time - the former Dundee star says there was never any bad blood between the midfield pair.

Eventually, Ferguson got the armband back when legendary boss Walter Smith returned to the club to replace Le Guen.
