Campaigners back our investigation into high-rises at risk of gas blasts

THE UK's leading tower block safety group has backed calls for a Scottish probe into Large Panel System high-rises following a Sunday Mail investigation.

Tower Blocks UK said our findings that hundreds of residents may live in blocks vulnerable to catastrophic gas explosions - are "unconscionable".

We told in September of calls for an urgent national review of buildings constructed using the potentially unsafe prefabricated concrete Large Panel System (LPS).

The LPS method was popular in the 60s and 70s for quickly building tower blocks, but it later emerged they are more prone to cracks, defects and structural weaknesses than other types of construction.
