SHEILA WAS BORN IN VILLAGE IN THE COUNTY

- By OSCAR FISHER

A BELOVED grandmother who was born in the county but started a new life in the US has been fondly remembered following her death last month.

Sheila Jeane Murphy was born in Barrow upon Soar, in 1928, before moving to Cromford, Derbyshire where she spent most of her childhood.

Mrs Murphy (née Birch) was a teenager during the Blitz in the Second World War, and her family helped care for children evacuated from London.

She went on to work as a nurse in Derby, living in Littleover and Allestree, before she met her would-be husband, Guy.
