POLICE WERE POWERLESS TO DEAL WITH ALLEGED THREATS

- By HANNAH RICHARDSON

A LEICESTERSHIRE woman was left unprotected for months after her solicitor failed to issue her ex-partner with a court order.

Her ex-partner reportedly made contact with the woman, who we are calling Emily, multiple times in the months after the order was signed off by Leicester Family Court - including allegedly making threats against her and her children.

He had previously been convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm on her. However, police were unable to take action as the delay meant the order was not active when they were alerted.

Emily secured a new non-molestation order against her ex in February. This banned him from going within 100 yards of her home; harassing, threatening or pestering her; damaging or threatening to damage her property, or communicating with her in any way other than through her solicitor.

She told the Mercury the man went on to breach those conditions five times in the months that followed, leaving her struggling with her mental health.
