Adding an orangery and reconfiguring the kitchen has given Sophie and Chris Gill a bright and practical family space

Sophie and Chris Gill had been living in their Victorian house for several years, but were keen to upgrade the kitchen which was really dark, inefficient to use and had hardly any worktop space.

1 MAKING PLANS

The original kitchen was installed long before Sophie and Chris moved in. The space was very dark and the Aga made it too hot in the summer. The couple approached Melissa Steele at Harvey Jones, who came up with a great new design and offered to manage the project and source tradespeople, which really appealed to them. 'Kitchens are expensive so I didn't want to choose things that would date too quickly,' says Sophie.
