Inspiring Change, Empowering Futures Dr. Hina Shah
Woman's Era
|March 2025
In a world where societal norms often place limitations on women, Dr. Hina Shah has forged a path of resilience, determination, and vision.
-

As the founder of four pioneering institutions—ICECD, SJIS, Limelight Pictures, and Hina's Art Pavilion—she has dedicated her life to empowering the nation, with a special focus on women, children, and creative professionals. Each of her ventures plays a significant role in fostering entrepreneurship, education, artistic expression, and storytelling, making an indelible mark on society.
ICECD: Transforming Lives Through Entrepreneurship
When Dr. Hina Shah set out on her journey, entrepreneurship was a domain reserved for men, and women's financial independence was often overlooked. Recognising the economic disparity and the need for structural change, she founded the International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (ICECD) in 1986, creating a space where individuals—especially women—could learn the essential skills required to build sustainable businesses.
ICECD has transformed into a global force, with Dr. Shah's unique Women Entrepreneurship Development (WED) model reaching communities across India and beyond. Initially introduced in urban regions, the initiative has since expanded to rural and tribal areas. The centre equips participants with hands-on knowledge in market research, business planning, finance, and production, ensuring they are not only economically self-reliant but also capable of competing in the global economy. Dr. Shah's impact extends across 60 countries, with ICECD shaping economic policies, influencing government programmes, and contributing to over 43 billion in investments within India alone. Collaborations with international bodies such as the World Bank, UNAIDS, ILO, and the Ministry of MSME have further strengthened its mission. Moreover, the institute is also recognised as a 'Center for Excellence' by the United Nations, marking the impact that it has had on an international level.
