New Heiresses
Woman's Era

No Longer Outsiders
A girl was never meant to be considered the property of her parents.
Thankfully, that outdated mindset is fading. In today’s world, daughters enjoy the same rights as sons. Growing up in a traditional Indian family, I always heard this thing during serious discussions about property: “Son, this will all be yours one day.” However, that “son” was never me. It was always my brother. As a daughter, it was understood, often without any harshness, just as a fact, that I would marry and move away, and the family property would pass to the sons.
Times Have Changed For Daughters
I belong to a generation that sees inheritance changing for the better. Daughters, who were once seen as guests in their parents' homes, are now recognised as rightful heirs. We no longer watch silently as our brothers receive family lands, homes, and wealth. We are becoming the new heiresses, standing side by side with our brothers and claiming our share, not out of charity, but because it is fair and just.
