When 29-year-old Priyanka Tiwari became the sarpanch of Rajpur Gram Panchayat in Uttar Pradesh in 2021, she carried with her a clear vision— to transform a struggling village into a model of sustainability. A mass communication graduate, Rajasthan-born and Delhi-bred Priyanka was deeply disturbed by the poor sanitation and waste management she witnessed after moving to Rajpur post-marriage. Rather than adapt to the situation, she decided to change it.
