Do you remember Doom 3? When it came out, all jagged, inky black shadows and mutterings from players about being a survival horror game rather than a straight shooter, it took Doom and slowed it down. Rather than just blowing things away with weapons you started to worry about imps lunging at you from the darkness, and the Cyberdemon was huge.

Doom: The Dark Ages reminds me of Doom 3 in a way. It's come after two fast-paced shooters, but slows things down a bit. It pits you against enormous foes surprisingly early in its storyline, even before you've reached the strange dodging and punching game that is using the Atlan mech.
