APPLE'S 'MADE IN INDIA' IPHONE TAKES FLIGHT
AppleMagazine
|July 25, 2025
Apple's push to diversify its global manufacturing base is gaining momentum, as the company’s ‘Made in India’ iPhone production enters a new phase of expansion and scale.
-
With the latest iPhone models now being assembled and exported from Indian facilities, Apple is rapidly transforming India into a key pillar of its global supply chain—a shift with major implications for both the tech giant and the country’s growing electronics industry.
After years of production trial runs and local component sourcing, Apple's India strategy is no longer just about meeting domestic demand. The company is now exporting Indian-assembled iPhones to global markets, marking a significant shift in manufacturing power traditionally held by China.
INDIA’S RISE AS A STRATEGIC MANUFACTURING HUBApple began assembling iPhones in India in 2017 through its manufacturing partner Wistron, initially focusing on older models for local distribution. In the years since, the company has steadily increased investment in Indian production, bringing on additional partners like Foxconn and Pegatron and expanding operations in key regions such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
By 2023, Apple had moved to manufacture new iPhone models in India just weeks after their global debut, including the iPhone 15 series. Now, with the company exporting millions of devices assembled on Indian soil, Apple's India production has transitioned from a cost-containment measure to a core component of its supply chain resilience strategy.
