Life after cancer for mum who lost daughter to a silent killer for women

- SHAURYA SHAURYA

MUM-OF-TWO Leanne Thomas had thought she had finally put cancer behind her when she underwent a double mastectomy after discovering a lump in her breast in 2018.

But she received the worst news possible when it returned again in 2022, and this time Leanne, from Swansea, tragically lost her fight with the disease. She is survived by her two children Ethan Thomas, 22, and Halle Smith, 19.

We spoke to her last year while she was undergoing chemotherapy when she described how it was an “emotional” experience telling her family members that her cancer had returned.

Now her mother Mandy Thomas, 65, has spoken about how life is after Leanne's death.

She said: “It’s been really difficult to be honest. You know you've just got to carry on but you just take one day at a time basically.”

Mandy added: “You probably have good days and bad days, or bad days and even worse days really. But we're getting there as a family. We are getting there now.”

Mandy said thinking that Leanne is no longer suffering helps deal with the loss.
