We refer to the Forum letters by Mr Irwan Jamil, “NMP scheme must evolve to remain relevant” (Sept 22), and Ms Koh Yan Ping, “Next slate of NMPs should have at least one woman who is a senior” (Sept 23).

Since the Nominated Members of Parliament (NMP) scheme began in 1990, public calls have consistently been made to invite the general public to submit the names of suitable NMP candidates to the Special Select Committee on Nominations for Appointment as NMPs (SSC) for consideration. These invitations are publicised through press releases detailing the application proces
