Red rivalry reignited:Liverpoolvs Mancester United
The Statesman Bhubaneswar
|October 18, 2025
Two of the most successful clubs in English football history, Liverpool and Manchester United, have long been locked in a fierce rivalry for supremacy.
Since the inception of the Football League in 1888, the two sides have finished in the top two positions five times.
In the first season following World War II, Liverpool claimed their fifth league title in 1946-1947. It was the closest title race between the two clubs, with Liverpool finishing on 57 points just one ahead of Manchester United’s 56. Forward Albert Stubbins was Liverpool's top scorer that season, netting 24 goals.
