The World Bank has approved loans amounting to around $950 million to support transport and health projects in the Philippines.

- By LOUELLA DESIDERIO

In a statement yesterday, the multilateral lender said its board of executive directors approved two projects aimed at improving transport connectivity and health services in Mindanao and low-capacity provinces.

In particular, the World Bank approved the $454.94-million Mindanao Transport Connectivity Improvement Project, which will involve the rehabilitation and upgrading of the 428.2-kilometer main road corridor linking Cagayan de Oro, Davao and General Santos.

This road network covers four highways such as Sayre Highway, Bukidnon-Davao Highway, Digos-Makar Highway and Davao-Cotabato Road.

The project will also involve the upgrade of three local roads connecting to the Cagayan de Oro — Davao — General Santos corridor, with a total length of 129.86 km.
