ASHBURTON IS ALSO HOME TO DARTMOOR TORS FESTIVAL

Charming town boasts an appeal that's timeless

The picturesque town is celebrated for its independent retailers

(KATIE OBORN)

A CHARMING town nestled beside rugged moorland has captured my attention, despite being relatively close to home.

As someone who relishes discovering fresh destinations, I'm fortunate to have countless distinctive towns within easy reach of Plymouth.

Ashburton lies a short distance from Plymouth, so a companion and I recently ventured there to experience this timeless settlement firsthand.

The picturesque location is celebrated for its independent retailers and quintessentially Devonian atmosphere - both of which thoroughly impressed me during our visit, although one well known shop in the town has recently closed down.

We travelled via the number 38 bus from Plymouth, enjoying a smooth and agreeable journey that meandered through stunning rural landscapes, passing through various towns and delightful villages en route.
