Parking fee frozen but costs of other services will go up
The Gazette
|December 13, 2025
THE cost of public car parks in Redcar and Cleveland will be frozen next year, but hundreds of other fees and charges able to be levied by the borough council are to rise.
The approach to car parking fees and charges was changed for 2025/26, moving away from an inflationary increase across the board to a more "intuitive" model.
These will be frozen in 2026/27, along with fees associated with the council's green waste collection subscription service.
However it will cost slightly more to request a replacement wheelie bin, £57 instead of £55 for a 360 litre bin in one example.
The council also began charging for the use of some public toilets earlier this year, beginning with Moore Street, in Redcar, then at Cat Nab and the Lower Promenade, in Saltburn and Fountain Street, Guisborough. The fee will remain frozen at 30p.
The cabinet also agreed to begin a consultation with residents over its 2026/27 budget proposals, which include another overall council tax rise to the maximum 4.99%.
It was also recently confirmed the cash-strapped council is planning to apply for temporary financial support from the Government via a scheme which enables revenue pressures to be capitalised and funded instead through borrowing.
