Singer says he will donate £1000 to charity if Scottish Water boss drinks glass from river

SHARK BAIT

ROCKER turned eco campaigner Feargal Sharkey has challenged the boss of Scottish Water to drink a glass of river water amid a row over sewage dumping.

The ex-Undertones star has vowed to pay £1000 to a charity of CEO Alex Plant's choosing if he agrees to the dare.

It comes after Scotland's publicly owned water firm said overflow pipes discharged sewage into the environment more than 24,000 times in 2024.

At least 30million cubic metres of wastewater spewed into the nation's waterways.

But Scottish Water has defended the practice as a "necessary part" of the sewage system to prevent flooding and claimed 99 per cent of what is released is "rainwater, road run-off and grey water", with less than one per cent sewage which "will not cause environmental harm".
