'Lights, camera, action' for Hollywood superhero film

PART of Stockport was transformed into the dark streets of Gotham for a new Hollywood movie.

Clayface - part of the DC Comics superhero franchise - was filmed in the town centre.

Fences, signs and props appeared in streets surrounding the Stockport Plaza on Mersey Square.

The prominent Grade II-listed building, which was first opened in 1932, was chosen as one of the backdrops for a big scene in the movie.

A huge red carpet was placed outside the theatre, ahead of filming taking place on Tuesday, September 9.

The film is part of the DC Comics ‘extended universe’ which is built around the Batman and Superman characters.

It stars White Lines and Suspicion actor Tom Rhys Harries in the lead role of Matt Hagen, a recurring enemy of Batman.

In the comics, Matt can shapeshift and transform his body into clay.

Produced by Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn, the movie will be directed by James Watkins.
